WHY PLAY HIGH 5 NETBALL?
A person’s first experience of a new game often leaves a lasting impression, and the aim in developing High 5 Netball is to ensure that young people, their teachers and coaches enjoy a positive, pleasurable and progressive introduction to Netball.
The game is aimed at everyone, but is primarily designed for girls and boys in Years 5 and 6, (aged 8 – 11 years) and is intended for use in friendly matches, local and area festivals, schools and club coaching or training sessions and holiday play schemes. Its design encourages a flowing game through which players can build up a range of movement skills and develop the concept of team work, whilst improving their health and fitness at the same time. The flexibility and variety of the game enables it also to be ideal for people with disabilities.
The modified game allows you to take into account the age, maturity and skill level of all your players. It provides the link between First Step Netball and the full 7 a-side rules. The rules have been tailored to allow players greater freedom around the court and more time in which to make their decisions and to act upon them. The game encourages maximum participation from those involved and introduces the roles of scorers, timekeepers and centre pass markers.
England Netball believes the game sits well with the requirements of Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum and fulfils the aims of the England Netball player development model.
