Netball featured strongly again at the Cornwall Sports Awards ceremony. Organised by the Cornwall Sports Partnership, over 200 of Cornwall’s unsung sporting heroes were invited to the annual event, held at The Headland Hotel in Newquay on Friday 8th November.

It was fantastic to see volunteers from the netball community being celebrated and paid tribute to for their dedication and efforts to supporting netball in Cornwall and inspiring the next generation.

There are some outstanding volunteers in our community and this was shown with three nominees finishing in the top three for their category:

          Alice Brown for Childrens Coach of the Year
          Hayley Curtis for Young Coach of the Year
          Marianne Oliver for Official of the Year

A huge congratulations to all but particularly to Marianne who came away as the 2013 Official of the Year!

Further netball celebrations were had as Saints NC were also recognised locally for their achievement in winning the England Netball National Club of the Year award.

Cornwall Sports Awards organiser, Natasha Howard of the Cornwall Sports Partnership, says:  “We are extremely proud to organise this event which recognises and rewards the many volunteers who give their time to inspire people to get involved in sport.  We encourage them to continue their great work creating a legacy of increased participation and enjoyment of sport throughout Cornwall.  We would also like to say a big thank you to all those who took the time to nominate, without which these awards could not take place”.
