Serena Guthrie visits Cornwall

13/8/2019

Serena Guthrie England Netball Captain was in Cornwall delivering workshops from Wednesday August 7th to Friday August 9th

Serena is from Jersey so made her way into National Squads by the SW Player Pathway. She has represented England’s National Squads since she was 18years old. She has played professional netball in New Zealand and Australia and last season returned to her routes to represent Team Bath Superleague Squad.

She delivered her first session at Saints Netball Cornwall on Wednesday evening, challenging players with invasion games and problem solving. It was also an opportunity for Bridget Wells to meet her hero. Bridget is recovering from autoimmune encephalitis and meeting Serena was a great incentive for her to keep working hard towards full recovery

Next up we’re two workshops, on Thursday August 8th at Truro School, the first for U11 and U12s. The second for U13 and U14s

Lots of ball handling skills and fun games and some match play
Next up we’re two similar workshops on the Friday at Callywith College Bodmin.
All workshops were really well attended so hopefully we will see Serena back in Cornwall again soon

Heartiest Congratulations to Kensa and Becky.

Kensa Jose from Storm NC and Becky Wilcock Bodmin NC both took the Practical C' Assessment on a 3rd division game at Redruth School. Really good tight goal for goal game throughout with one team just inching away at the end of the 4th quarter.

Becky has recently joined Bodmin having previously been learning her umpiring skills in Plymouth. Kensa is just 16 years of age and showed outstanding skills for her age and was rewarded with a very high mark. Both now join Cornwall's ever growing TEAM WHITE. Great work girls.

Thanks also to both Connect and Predators for their complete support in hosting the assessment.

Golden Generation: Truro School Netball Teams Prepare for Regional Showdown

Truro School’s netball teams are currently in the final stages of training and preparation as they look ahead to the South-West regional tournament on Saturday 30 January.

Described as a ‘golden generation’ by their PE teachers, the Under 14, 16 and 18 teams all put in impressive performances to qualify through their respective county tournaments back in November.

Looking forward with anticipation, Mrs Newton, Head of Netball at Truro School, said: “I think it is very unusual for a school to get all three possible age groups through to the regional tournament. In the past we have had one or two teams qualify for the regionals, but never a clean sweep!

Congratulations to Saira Odwyer who on Saturday 12th December travelled out of Cornwall to Bridgewater a C' umpire and came back to Cornwall a B' umpire.

Saira took her Practical Assessment at a Regional 2 game between Jupiter's and Crossbow.  Incredibly good, fast, contested game with tight score line right up to the final quarter.

Saira did a tremendous job under nerve racking conditions and was rewarded with a high pass mark and excellent post match feedback from the assessor. Excellent result.
